iPhone (and iPod touch) feature request
I really would have thought this would just work. I have my music collection in iTunes on my Mac Pro. I can use my MacBook Pro, for example, to stream that music over WiFi and play it somewhere else in the house, albeit over laptop speakers. I just plugged my iPhone into the (ageing and apparently incompatible) Bose SoundDock in the kitchen, and, unless I'm mistaken, there's no analogous option for streaming over WiFi to the iPhone. I don't see how there could be a technical or licensing impediment to implementing this for the iPhone and iPod touch—is there?

Hi Paul
I understand your request - and it would be nice but have you tried using an Airport Express as a remote music player? Itunes sees it as another music output device in addition to the PC speakers. You can use several of them either plugged into powered speakers or an amplifier to distribute music throughout the house. They all play the same music which is a small limitation, but they can have separate volume controls.

I used this setup for a while, then went over to a squeezebox. The squeezebox can have different music in each zone and allows local control of each device so you do not need to have an iphone or access to the GUI of a computer.
Cheers
