Even more on PowerBook on a Billion WLAN
Here are some more observations on the ongoing problem:
- The interval between WLAN failures seems completely random. It failed about an hour ago, just under 24 hours ago, and prior to that was up for well over a week.
- It's definitely only the WLAN that fails. The Ethernet LAN works, as does the WAN. Full speed, no problems.
- Rebooting the PowerBook does not help. Rebooting the router helps. In fact, the PowerBook will reconnect to the WLAN without intervention as soon as the Billion has rebooted.
I hear you. I'm having exactly the same problem with my powerbook 12" and a billion 7402VGO. I just recently returned it after it died when I tried to upgrade the firmware, have a refurb unit with the latest firmware upgrade- no difference. I'm really annoyed. It took me 4 weeks to get the replacement and in the meantime I bought a Netgear 834g. No problems at all with wireless and this unit. SO it clearly has something to do with the Billion 7402. VERY unhappy!

On the bright side, you finally updated your blog... making my repeated clicking worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteMust be a blue moon!
PS. Die, billion! Die!
Update on my billion problem: it has gone away since upgrading the firmware to 5.05 and upgrading the mac to 10.4.5. Might be worth a try on your end...

Thanks a lot for the tip. I have MacOS X patched to 10.4.5, but only 5.04i on the 7402. I'll upgrade the firmware right now...
ReplyDeleteActually, come to think of it, I haven't had a WLAN drop-out for some time. I can't recall when I upgraded OS X to 10.4.5, but I wonder if that has fixed the problem. I always suspected the problem was with OS X rather than the Billion router.
